TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team reclaimed its home court with a comeback 5-2 victory over rival Bowling Green at Twos Athletic Club on Saturday.
Bowling Green came out on top with 6-4 victories from the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 match lead. Toledo came back to win five of the six singles matches, all in two sets, to secure the match over their I-75 rival. Junior
Sloane Teske tied the match 1-1 with a sweep on the No. 2 court. She was followed by senior
Eileen Carney (No. 6 court), sophomore
Julia Kuszynski (No. 3), and sophomore
Shalini Tallamraju, who clinched the match from the No. 4 court. BG's only victory came on the No. 6 court in a super tiebreaker set, 2-6, 7-5, 10-4.
"I was happy with the dominant singles effort today," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "We jumped on top of them in singles and didn't let them up for air."
Teske, Carney and Tallamraju have all won their last four singles matches.
"Sloane lost to the same opponent twice last year, so to win so convincingly todays says so much about her improvements," Mauntler said.
UT will be on the road next Friday, April 15 for a rematch with Miami. The Rockets and RedHawks are set to play at 1:00 p.m. at the Miami Tennis Courts.
