Rockets Welcome Northern Illinois, Western Michigan for Home Finale

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team will play its final two home matches of the season this Friday vs. Northern Illinois and Saturday vs. Western Michigan. Both matches are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start and will be played at UT Varsity Tennis Courts. In case of inclement weather on either day, the matches will be moved indoors to Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
This is the second time this season Toledo (12-6, 5-1 MAC), Northern Illinois (10-7, 4-3 MAC) and Western Michigan (11-7, 7-0 MAC) will go head-to-head prior to the conference tournament in in two weeks. Toledo claimed its first conference win of the 2022 season 6-1 vs. NIU on March 11, but fell 5-2 to WMU on March 13. The MAC Men's Tennis Championship will take place Saturday-Sunday, April 23-24 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
UT will honor its only senior, Cole Shoults, before the start of Sunday's match vs. WMU. Sunday's match will be streamed live on ESPN3 and can also be seen locally on BCSNÂ on a tape-delay basis.
"We have two huge matches and the last home weekend of the year, and we're excited to deploy some 'Rocket Tennis Experience' tactics of giveaways and sponsored food," said head coach Al Wermer, who earned his 296th-career victory at last Saturday's match. "So, it should be a great time!"
Last Time Out
Toledo picked up its second win vs. Ball State this season in a 6-1 victory on Muncie, Ind. on Saturday. Sophomore Pawit Sornlaksup continued his hot streak from the No. 1 court, winning his 16th-straight singles match to remain perfect (6-0) against conference opponents. Sornlaksup and doubles partner junior Marko Galic clinched the doubles points vs. BSU, marking their eighth-straight doubles win together from the top court. Other Rockets on singles win-streaks are Galic (No. 6) and junior Krzysztof Wetoszka (No. 4), both of whom have won four straight from their respective courts. Junior Luka Jankovic is at three straight wins from the No. 5 court.
About Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois fought back in the final two singles matches to earn a 4-3 win over Buffalo on Sunday, and gave head coach Patrick Fisher the program record with 187 career wins. Five of the six singles matches went to three sets, and sophomore Luke VanDonslear clinched the deciding point for the Huskies from the No. 6 court.
About Western Michigan
Western Michigan claimed its 11th win of the season and maintained its unblemished 7-0 conference record in a 7-0 decision over Binghamton on Sunday. The Broncos have won their last three matches after dropping a 5-2 decision to Cornell on March 20. WMU will visit Ball State on Friday before coming to Toledo on Sunday.
