TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team collected a 12-1 record on the opening day of its Indoor Rocket Invite vs. Cleveland State and Bowling Green on Friday afternoon. The Rockets won all three doubles matches and five singles against the Vikings, plus four matches against the Falcons.

"The team definitely made a statement today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "The confidence grows every time the squad gets on the court. We are looking to finish strong tomorrow."

Junior Cassie Alcala and senior Sloane Teske got things started for Toledo with the first doubles win of the afternoon over Cleveland State's Bethnay Youch and Selma Tounsi. Freshman Sanjana Tallamraju and senior Mariona Perez followed with a doubles victory over Filippa Frogner and Ella Franz of CSU. Junior Shalini Tallamraju and senior Laura Morera completed the doubles sweep over Cleveland State with a win over Oihane Vicario and Tereze Vevere.

In singles play Alcala swept Oihane Vicario (CSU) in two sets, followed by another two-set victory over Ioanna Tsardi (BGSU).

Teske fell in her first set against Bethany Yauch (CSU), won the second set to stay in the match, but was defeated in the third-set tiebreaker. Teske then picked up a two-set win over Lucy Furness (BGSU).

Tallamraju won her first match in a two-set sweep over Tereze Vevere (CSU) and won her second match against Maru Poppe (BGSU) in two sets.

Perez won her first match over Selma Tounsi (CSU) in two sets and ended the day with a two-set win over Hannah Neuman (BGSU)

Morera came out victorious in a three-set decision over Filippa Frogner (CSU).

Sanjana Tallamraju won her first collegiate singles match in two sets vs. Ella Franz (CSU).

The Indoor Rocket Invite will continue Saturday, beginning with doubles competition at 9:00 a.m.
