TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team will open the 2022 portion of its 2021-22 season this weekend at the Florida Gulf Coast University Weekend Kickoff, Friday-Sunday, Jan. 14-16 in Fort Meyers, Fla.
Toledo will take the court against FGCU on Friday and close out the weekend with a match vs. Liberty on Sunday. Both matches are set for 10:00 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Rockets look to pick up from where they left at the end of a tremendous 2020-21 season. Head Coach
Tracy Mauntler's team recorded an overall 15-7 record with a 11-3 MAC mark for a second-place league finish. The Rockets ended the year on a nine-match winning streak that closed with a comeback 4-3 defeat over MAC Champion Ball State.
Last Time on the Court
Toledo faced Cleveland State and Bowling Green for its annual Rocket Invitational on Oct. 29-30. Every Rocket doubles pair won its respective matches against the Vikings and Falcons, and combined for a 21-2 record over the two days.Â
About Florida Gulf Coast
FGCU is entering the spring season following 11 singles and five doubles victory showings at the Bonita Bay Classic (Nov. 5-7) alongside three power-five schools. The Eagles were picked to finish second in the 2022 ASUN Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll with 85 points.
About Liberty
Liberty finished the North Texas Mean Green Invite (Nov. 5-7) with eight singles and six doubles victories. The Flames were picked to finish third in the 2022 ASUN Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll with 83 points, including one first-place vote.
