CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Toledo women's tennis players freshman Cassie Alcala and sophomore Sloane Teske have been named to the All-MAC squad, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Alcala, who was also named the league's Freshman of the Year, was a First-Team All-MAC selection. Teske was named Second-Team All-MAC. Alcala is the first Toledo player to win MAC Freshman of the Year since Martina Wodzinski in 2007.

"It's a great honor for Cassie and Sloane to be recognized for their impressive accomplishments this season," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Cassie was a force in the MAC and what she was able to do day-in and day-out at our top singles spot was unmatched. She is a true warrior on the court and I know she can't wait to start her sophomore season."

Alcala was arguably the best player in the entire conference this season, posting an 18-4 singles record playing primarily on the top singles court. The Pickerington, Ohio native posted a 12-2 record against MAC opponents, playing all 14 matches in the top singles spot, and at one point won eight straight contests. Alcala was named MAC Singles Player of the Week three times, and the freshman won her only head-to-head battle against 2021 MAC Player of the Year Laura Rico from Miami.

In doubles play, Alcala spent much of the season playing with Teske on the top doubles court, and the duo posted a record of 10-3. The duo earned a MAC Doubles Team of the Week award after going 3-0 in against Buffalo, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan. Individually, Teske compiled a record of 13-7 while playing all but two matches on the No. 2 singles court. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native was a crucial piece in Toledo's success this season, posting nine victories in conference play

"Sloane has really bought into the new aggressive style of play we've been working on since last year," Mauntler said. "She is incredibly difficult to play against as she takes the ball so early and puts a lot of pressure on her opponents. But what I'm more impressed about was Sloane's leadership this year. She has innate leadership characteristics and she really embraced that role with so many freshmen on our team."

The Rockets had an remarkable season, posting an overall record of 15-7 and a 11-3 mark in conference play, good for a second-place finish. Toledo won its final nine matches of the season and ended the year with a thrilling, come-from-behind win over MAC Champion Ball State, handing the Cardinals their first conference loss of the year.
