PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Toledo men's golf team opened its 2021 season in Ponte Vedra, Florida on Monday and sits in 11th place following 36 holes at the Sea Best Invitational. Today's conditions at the par-70, 6,790-yard TPC at Sawgrass – Dye's Valley course were cold and windy with temperatures in the low 40s.
"At this point I'm really happy that our guys are in the United States because less than a month ago they were in their home countries," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "They're going through a lot right now with quarantining when they arrive, testing and finding a little time to practice. It's just a testament to their will to compete. They are a proven bunch of players who are going to accomplish a lot as a group, and they really understand this is part of the process of getting better. It's nice that they're not so focused on the short term but instead have a vision for the long term."
Senior Nate Thomson is leading the Rockets at 10-over par 150 and tied for 29th place. Junior David Amm (79-78) and freshman Barend Botha (78-79) are tied for 57th place at 17-over par 157.
Rounding out the Rocket lineup are sophomore NJ Botha (81-79=160/T-68th) and freshman Jamie Tofte Nielsen (82-82=164/71st). Junior Wooyoung Choi is competing as an individual in 74th place at 26-over par 166 (82-84).
The final round of the tournament will be held on Tuesday.
