Sophomore Barend Botha Named MAC Men's Golfer of Week

TOLEDO, Ohio - Sophomore Barend Botha received Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week honors for the second time in his career, the league office announced on Thursday. Botha was honored after leading Toledo to a second-place finish at the Grandover Collegiate by finishing fourth with a 54-hole total of nine-under par 209.
A George, South Africa native, Botha opened the tournament with a pair of four-under par 68s before carding a one-over par 73 in his final round. Botha was tied for second in the tournament in par-four scoring at four-under par. The reigning MAC Freshman of the Year leads the Rockets this season with a 71.3 stroke average and has registered eight rounds in the 60s.
Toledo will be back in action on Feb. 7-8 at Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event in Dade City, Fla.
