TOLEDO, Ohio –  Sophomore
Cassie Alcala and junior
Sloane Teske will represent the Toledo women's tennis program at the ITA Midwest Super Regionals. The tournament will be held on Friday-Monday, Oct. 22-25 in Ohio State's Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The Super Regionals will include 32-player singles and 16-team doubles draws, where Toledo's tandem will participate in the doubles portion. The singles champions, singles runners-up and doubles champion will advance to the ITA National Fall Championships set for Nov. 4-7.
"This is a great opportunity for Sloane [Teske] and Cassie [Alcala] to compete with the best in the Midwest," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "They have proven a lot over the past year and are always looking for new opportunities to take advantage of, and that's exactly what this tournament will be for them. We don't get the chance to play most of these teams during our main season, so I expect Sloane and Cassie to be up for it and compete hard this weekend."
Last Time Out
Alcala and Teske had an excellent weekend at ITA Midwest Regionals on Sept. 25 in the doubles draws and their respective singles draws. The duo defeated the No. 1 seeded doubles team from Ohio State (8-4), which secured their ticket into this weekend's competition. The tandem later fell to a doubles team from Wisconsin (8-5) in a match that helped determine seeding for this weekend.
The win marked Toledo's first-ever win over a No. 1 seed at an ITA Regionals event. It also marked the first time a Rocket advanced to the ITA Super Regionals under the current ITA Regionals format, as a single or doubles team from either the men's or women's program.
