PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Four current members and one former member of the University of Toledo women's golf program were in action last week in the Ohio Women's State Amateur at Belmont Country Club.
Highlighting the Rockets' play was incoming freshman Macy Hanus, who advanced to the semifinals of the championship flight before falling 3&1 to Youngstown State's Katlyn Shutt. The Bowling Green, Ohio native posted victories over Kent State's Julia Goodson (1up in 21 holes). Saginaw Valley State's Sabrina Coffman (1up) and defending champion Ali Green (1up) to reach the semifinals.
Former Rocket Allison Schultz tied for the best round during qualifying with a one-under par 72. She defeated Erin Mulcahy (5&4) and Brown's Pinya Pipatjarasgit (6&5) before falling to Ball State's Liz Km (5&4) in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore
Claudia Sampson also enjoyed a productive tournament by winning four matches to capture the First Flight. She downed Findlay's Jordan Pruitt (2&1), Gracie Baun (1up), Bowling Green's Erin Korn (1up in 20 holes) and Ohio Dominican's Emma Romine (3&1).
"We loved seeing our players back in action and supporting our state championship," Head Coach
Jenny Coluccio said. "Alli has been a great ambassador for the program and continues to play some great golf. Macy battled hard in her matches and grinded out a great tournament. I was also proud to see Claudia close out the win as she has been making lots of improvements this summer. The experience for everyone was valuable as we start to look forward to the upcoming school year."
Sophomores
Amelia Lee and
Kathryn Roth also competed in the event. Lee qualified for the championship flight and defeated Bowling Green's Kelsey Sager (2&1) before falling to Green (4&3) in her second match. Roth lost to Findlay's Skylar Dean (4&3) in her only match in the Second Flight.
