Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's tennis team are heading to Boca Raton, Fla. over spring break, competing in four matches over the break. The Rockets will be challenging Florida Atlantic on March 3, Charlotte on March 5, UT Arlington on March 6, and Lynn on March 7.
The Rockets recently extended their winning streak to five matches after defeating Southeast Missouri State and Illinois State in the Redbird Invitational last weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 23 UT edged out Southeast Missouri State 4-3 in Normal, Ill. Senior
Kokoro Chishaki defeated her opponent in two sets and freshmen
Eileen Carney and
Christina Fuller defeated their opponents in three sets. Senior
Thalita Rodrigues clinched the match, defeating her opponent in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) to launch the Rockets into the championship match against Illinois State.
Toledo took on Illinois State the following day, clinching the doubles point for the first time in four matches with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts from duos freshman
Kiersten Carlson/Rodrigues and Fuller/Carney. In singles action the earned three two-set victories on the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 courts from Chishaki, Fuller, and Rodrigues. Fuller clinched the match with a score of 6-3, 6-4 on the No. 4 court.
At the conclusion of the weekend, Rodrigues earned the Tournament MVP title.

Scouting Florida Atlantic
Florida Atlantic went 11-8 last season, posting two 7-0 sweeps over Florida A&M and USC Upstate. The Owls also snagged two 4-3 victories on the season.
FAU has a young team, composed of four sophomores, one red-shirt sophomore, three freshmen, and one senior. Redshirt-sophomore Jacara Gillis wnet 14-7 in singles last season and 9-9 in doubles. Sophomore Natalia Boltinskaya posted a 16-5 singles record at the No. 2 position and went 11-10 in doubles play. Boltinskaya also won the No. 1 singles flight at the FIU Invitational. Fellow sophomore Jemi Aguilar posted a 13-3 doubles record, going 12-2 with partner Aliona Bolsova and was ranked No. 55 in the ITA rankings for doubles.
The Owls are currently 2-4 with a 4-3 win over USF and a 4-2 win over North Florida.
Scouting Charlotte
Last season Charlotte went 9-13 with one sweep over USC Upstate. The 49ers won three matches 5-2, but were edged out 4-3 by College of Charleston, Massachusetts, UAB, Winthrop, and Campbell. In the first round of the Conference USA Championships the 49ers defeated No. 8 seeded Southern Miss 4-2 before getting swept 4-0 by No. 1 seeded and No. 37 ranked FIU in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Rocio Safont led the 49ers last season with a team-best 12-8 dual match singles record. Safont became the first 49ers individual to top 20 since Natsuko Takayanagi in 2014-15. Junior Pierina Imparato posted the second-best record, going 11-6 in singles play.
Charlotte is 6-3 this season, clinching wins over Wofford, Lenoir-Rhyne, Marshall, North Carolina A&T and Charleston Southern.
Scouting UT Arlington
UT Arlington went 11-9 last season, posting three 4-0 sweeps over Arkansas State, Texas State, and UTSA. The Mavericks also got away with three narrow 4-3 victories over Georgia State, San Francisco, and ULM.
Sophomore Lucia Natal went 18-5 last season, primarily at the No. 5 spot and was undefeated in conference singles action. Senior Carla Vives went 8-4 in doubles play, primarily at the No. 3 spot and junior Anna Wichert went 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot. Wichert also switched between the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots.
Currently 8-2, UT Arlington has posted six sweeps so far. The Mavericks' only losses have come at the hands of Wichita State and Rice.
Scouting Lynn
Lynn finished the 2017-18 season with at 20-5 record. The Fighting Knights posted three regular season sweeps over No. 25 St. Thomas, No. 25 Valdosta State, and Hillsdale and defeated elevent total top-25 Division II teams, including No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett, No. 4 Barry, No. 5 West Florida, and No. 9 Saint Leo. In the Sunshine State Conference tournament Lynn knocked out Tampa 5-0 in the quarterfinals and Nova Southeastern 5-1 in the semifinals before falling to No. 1 ranked Barry 5-1. Lynn competed in the NCAA South Region #2 bracket, sweeping Benedict 5-0 before suffering a post-season ending loss to No. 3 West Florida, 5-4.
Senior Leolia Jeanjean competed at the Division I level at Baylor and the University of Arkansas prior to Lynn. Jeanjean posted a 18-2 singles record in 2017 and advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles and singles at the ITA National Fall Championships in 2018. Junior Eliska Petrackova posted a 12-6 record last season, earning ITA All-American honors in doubles alongside Klaudia Boczova and was an All-SSC Doubles First-Team selection. Petrackova and Boczova finished as the No. 5 ranked doubles team in the country.
Currently Lynn sits undefeated at 7-0, racking up four sweeps over St. Thomas (Fla.), Webber International, No. 16 Rollins, and Flager. Lynn is scheduled to play Georgetown on Monday, March 4 prior to their match against Toledo.
