EAST LANSING,, Mich. - The Toledo women's tennis team wrapped the first day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regional in East Lansing, Mich. on Thursday. 
 
"We had some solid performances today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler, "It's definitely something we can build from. Junior Patricia Panta, senior Dee Dee Leenabanchong, and freshman Sloane Teske had some big wins for us."  
 
Panta defeated Eastern Illinois' Christine Gouws 7-5, 7-5 before falling to Marquette's Fleur Eggink 6-3, 6-1. Leenabanchong defeated Marquette's Issy Franks 6-4, 6-3. In the second round, Leenabanchong fell to Illinois' Emily Casati, 6-2, 6-2. Teske locked into three-set battle with Michigan's Lera Patiuk, winning the first set 7-5. Teske then dropped the second set 5-7, before coming back to clinch the win 6-2. Teske later fell to No. 2 seed Northwestern's Christina Hand 6-1, 6-4. 
 
The Rockets will kick off competition tomorrow with the first round of doubles at 2:00 p.m.
