Rockets Set to Host Western Michigan and Northern Illinois

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team (5-4-1, 1-1-0 MAC) returns home this weekend to host matches against Western Michigan (8-2-0, 2-0-0 MAC) and Northern Illinois (1-9-0, 0-2-0 MAC) for the second week of Mid-American Conference action. The Rockets take on the Broncos on Friday at 4:00 p.m. before playing the Huskies at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Friday's match against the Broncos is Country Night. Fans who attend wearing country attire will receive $1 off their admission. Sunday is also Soccer Mom Sunday where all moms whose children come dressed in uniform receive free admission. Additionally, the NIU match is a Local Soccer Night where all local soccer players receive free admission.
 
Last time out
The Rockets are coming off a weekend split against Ball State and Miami. UT fell 2-0 to BSU on Friday before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over the RedHawks on Sunday. Toledo's Sunday goals were scored by freshman Elbony Rodriguez and senior captain Hannah Scafaria.
 
Rodriguez's chance came in the 34th minute. Rodriguez collected a cross into the 18-yard box in close to the net and finished it for her first of the year. Scafaria scored in the 51st minute off a rebounded shot from freshman Ashton Cassel, claiming her eighth goal of the season.
 
Scouting Toledo
The Rockets are led by Scafaria, who has netted eight goals through 10 games, including a hat trick against UIC on Aug. 26. After last weekend, Scafaria has tied her career-high record of eight goals in one season that she set during the 2017 campaign. The senior is currently ranked 16th in the nation for goals per game, averaging 0.88, and 14th in the nation for total goals. Scafaria's eight goals also pace the conference, with Buffalo's Carissima Cutrona sitting behind her with six. The captain is also second in the MAC for points and points-per-game (16 points/1.60 avg.)
 
Sophomores Sophia Lewis and Alex Troy have been getting into the mix lately, as well. Lewis has one goal and three assists on the year, and Troy has contributed two goes while showing an exceptional ability to control the ball through the midfield. Both players are averaging at least a .545 SOG percentage and have over 600 minutes this season.
 
Sophomore Madison Perrin has been Toledo's main goalkeeper this year. Perrin holds a 4-3-1 record with two shutouts, a .791 save percentage, and a 1.10 GAA through eight starts.
 
Last time against Western Michigan
UT and the Broncos last faced off in the opening match of the 2017 MAC Tournament. UT won 2-1 with goals coming from Sophie Pohl and Isa Echeverri. Pohl nodded in a header in the 16th minute, and Echeverri slotted in Toledo's second in the 54th minute after winning a penalty kick. WMU got on the board in the 88th from Alex Ruffer.
 
Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan enters the weekend at the top of the MAC standings, coming off wins over Akron (Friday, 1-0 OT) and Buffalo (Sunday, 4-2). Friday's victory was WMU's third straight, and featured Victoria Kyriakopoulos netting her first of the season in the first minute of overtime. Sunday's match saw Alyssa Burke score her fourth and Morgan Otteson net her third, while Grace Labadie scored her first two of the year.
 
The Broncos are led by Labadie who's assisted in 11 goals on top of her two scoreed. Burke paces the team in total goals, scoring four and assisting in two. Bailey Korhorn also has four goals on the year. Between the pipes is Hannah Sargent who has played every minute of the season for WMU. Sargent has five shutouts through 10 starts, amassing a 0.90 GAA and .791 save percentage.
 
Last time against Northern Illinois
The Rockets and Huskies last saw each other on Sept. 29, 2017 in DeKalb, Ill. UT won 2-1 in overtime that day thanks to Scafaria answering NIU's 62nd minute goal with one of her own six minutes later. The match was three minutes away from ending in a draw when Scafaria headed in a cross to clinch the victory for Toledo.
 
Scouting the Huskies
NIU enters the weekend ranked last in the MAC and riding a three-match losing streak, and they play Bowling Green on Friday before coming to Scott Park. The Huskies' are coming off a 5-0 loss to Buffalo and 3-2 loss to Akron over the weekend. The Cardinal and Black's weekend goals were scored by Kelsey Chope and Kyleigh Dominguez. Chope opened scoring against the Zips in the 12th minute but Akron hit back in the 53rd and 63rd minutes. Dominguez won a penalty in the 86th that she netted in to tie the score, but Akron scored again in the final minute to take the day.
 
NIU is led by Trudy Quidzinski who has two goals on the season through seven starts in nine games. The Huskies' primary goalkeeper has been Megan Donnally who's 1-7-0 on the year and holds a 2.35 GAA and .779 save percentage with one shutout. She's backed up by MacKenzie Lee who's 0-2-0 with a 4.20 GAA and .667 save percentage through two starts and three appearances.
 
Last time in the MAC
The Rockets went 6-3-2 during conference play last season, amassing a 4-1-1 home and 2-2-1 away record. Hannah Scafaria scored six goals during league play, and goalkeeper Madison Perrin, who played every minute for UT, recorded a 1.23 GAA and .794 save percentage. Toledo's play earned them the No. 3 seed spot in the MAC tournament, where they went on to defeat Western Michigan (2-1), Ball State (2-1, 2OT) and Bowling Green (2-1, OT) to claim UT's fifth conference title, and first since 2011.
