Bollinger Homers for Lone Run in 11-1 Loss to Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior Dalton Bollinger roped his fifth home run of the season for the lone Rockets run in a 11-1 loss to Michigan State on Wednesday afternoon at McLane Stadium. The Rockets have now lost four-straight since their four game win streak was broken last week.

Toledo (14-27) jumped in front, 1-0, when Bollinger went deep to left on the first pitch of the second inning. Bollinger now ranks second on the team, alongside junior Matt Hansen, with five home runs and 28 RBIs.

Michigan State (21-16) made the Rockets lead short-lived, tying the game 1-1 in the home half. The Spartans had the bases loaded with two out, but UT freshman starter Joey Prechtel was able to induce a 5-4-3 double play to limit the damage.

The Spartans took the lead in the third with a lead off single and a two-out, RBI base knock to make the count 2-1. MSU added to the lead with an RBI double in the fifth and a solo home run in teh sixth to go ahead 4-1.

Prechtel went 4.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits and a pair of walks. Sophomore Nate Haugh and junior Alex Wagner combined to toss 2.1 innings of relief, surrendering a run, the solo home run, on three hits.

In the eighth inning, Michigan State sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on just three hits. Toledo used five pitchers, walked four batters and plunked a pair of Spartans in the inning.

The Rockets schedule takes the Midnight Blue & Gold to Louisville to play the No. 2 Cardinals in a three-game series.
