TOLEDO, OH – Toledo dropped a 62-59 decision against Pac-12 member Arizona in Saturday's season opener before 3,713 fans at Savage Arena. With the loss, the Rockets (0-1) fall to 21-21 all-time in season-opening contests in program history, including 4-4 under head coach
Tricia Cullop.
The Wildcats' (1-0) Breanna Workman scored the game's final three points to provide the difference in today's season opener. Workman converted a layup with 1:10 remaining in regulation and split a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to give UA the three-point road victory.
UT had one final chance to force overtime in the waning seconds, but sophomore
Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott's three-point field goal bounced off the rim as the final horn sounded.Â

Brenae Harris led Toledo with 12 points and four assists, followed by junior
Sophie Reecher and sophomore
Jada Woody with 11 points each. Redshirt freshman
Mikaela Boyd added nine points off the bench and Bravo-Harriott had seven.Â
As a team, Toledo shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from three-point range, and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the charity stripe.

Taryn Griffey paced Arizona with a game-high six triples and 18 points, while Melena Washington and Workman contributed 10 points each. The visitors also received eight points and a contest-best 10 rebounds from Lauren Evans off the bench.Â
In a game that featured eight times and six lead changes, Arizona's Griffey and Michal Miller broke open a back-and-forth first half with a pair of treys in the final minute to give the visitors a 29-23 edge at the break.
UA's lead quickly grew to eight points in the opening moments of the third quarter, before UT went on a 15-2 run to claim a 42-36 advantage with 3:51 left in the period. Woody sparked the rally with a pair of three-point field goals to turn a three-possession deficit into a two-possession lead.
Unfortunately for Toledo, the lead did not last long as Arizona closed the quarter on a mini 10-4 burst to knot the score at 46-46 heading into the final 10 minutes.Â
The Wildcats' Griffey remained red-hot shooting the ball from the perimeter in the opening moments of the fourth quarter and buried two more treys to make the difference 54-48 with 8:46 left in the contest, forcing UT into calling a timeout.
The stoppage in play greatly helped the Rockets, as they reeled off 11 of the next 16 points to tie the score at 59-59 at the 1:31 mark. Reecher ignited the late rally with six points, while Boyd accounted for the other five to set the stage for Workman's final three points in the waning moments of regulation. Â
The Rockets return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when they travel to No. 3 Notre Dame. The opening tip against the nationally ranked Fighting Irish is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Purcell Pavilion.
