Jim Nice served as head athletic trainer at The University of Toledo for 23 years from 1961-1984, tending to the medical needs of thousands of student-athletes. In 1982, he was appointed administrative assistant to then athletic director Vern Smith. While at UT Nice provided the Rockets with one of the finest teams of medical specialists associated with any collegiate team in the country. His professionalism and dedicated approach made him one of the most respected athletic trainers in the nation. In addition, he had a genuine concern for the athletes as human beings and wholeheartedly supported all of UT's athletic teams. For 11 years, he served as an assistant trainer of the College All-Star Squad that met the FL Champions each August in Chicago. A native of Lima, Ohio, Nice is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and was trained as a physical therapist at Brooks Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He served as assistant trainer at Northwestern University from 1956-60 and took his first position as head trainer at The University of Maine in 1960.
