Jerry Welling was a starting halfback on the teams of 1933-35. In 1933 he led all players in Ohio in scoring (72 points) and touchdowns (12). He was first team all-Ohio in 1933 and 1935. Only a broken leg in 1934 kept him from the honor a third season. Once described as follows: "A team leader in every way. There isn't a back in the Big Ten his equal."
