Jay Gast was one of the most accurate shooters in Toledo history. He connected on better than 52 percent of his shots, ranking 18th on the all-time scoring list with 1,328 points. As a senior team captain, Gast led the Rockets in scoring with 17.1 points per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the field and 80.5 percent from the line. He also grabbed 4.6 rebounds and passed for 120 assists. As a junior, Gast averaged 12.4 points and shot an amazing 60.0 percent from the field, the sixth-best mark in school history. He also connected on 83.5 percent of his shots from the free-throw line. Gast led the Rockets in steals in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Gast is still written in the records books today for his performance throughout his four years, which he currently ranks fourth for assists in MAC games (295) and ninth in points in MAC games (885).
