Harry Lanzi won varsity wrestling letters in 1951, 1952, and 1953. He led Toledo to a record of 8-1 and a sixth place finish in the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship wrestling tournament in 1951. That same year he also won the National AAU heavyweight title and represented the United States in international competition. In 1952 he led Toledo to its first Mid-American Conference wrestling title and won the Midwest Olympic trials heavyweight crown. In 1953 he repeated as NCAA heavyweight champion and led Toledo to a season record of 8-2 and helped Toledo to a fourth place finish in the NCAA championship tournament. He was never defeated in three seasons of dual meet competition. He held three national championships at the same time -- NCAA, National AAU, and National YMCA.
