Brian Eisner is one of the most successful head coaches in UT history, regardless of sport. During his career, he led UT to four consecutive Mid-American Conference titles (1966-1969), posting records of 15-5 in 1966, 12-5 in 1967, 11-3 in 1968 and 14-5 in 1969. In Eisner's only other two seasons, his teams finished second on the conference with an 11-7 mark (1965), and fourth with a 13-5-1 record (1964). After six seasons, in which his record stood at 76-30-1, Eisner caught the eye of the University of Michigan. As the current head mentor at UM, Eisner is recognized as one of the finest collegiate coaches in the nation. In his 23 years as head coach, the Wolverines have won 17 Big Ten titles; including 17 in a row from 1970-83, and twice have finished third on the nation (1974, 1988). He has posted a career record of 354 wins and 135 losses at UM, a winning percentage of better than 72 percent, while his overall career record of 430 wins and 165 losses (.715) ranks him seventh on the win list of active Division I coaches. Eisner began his collegiate tennis career at Michigan State University in 1960, where he was a runner-upĀ in the Big Ten singles championship his first season. As team captain in 1961 and 1962, he earned a No.10 singles ranking from the Western Tennis Association. Upon receiving his Master's Degree in physical education in 1963 at the age of 23, he began his coaching career at UT. He joins his brother Dean Eisner, who played tennis for UT during Brian's coaching career here, as Hall of Fame member.
