Toledo Claims Fifth Seed in MAC Tournament

Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo baseball team will be the No. 5 seed in next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio. UT will face No. 4 seed Central Michigan on Wednesday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. to open tournament play.

The Rockets earned a spot in the conference tourney after Ball State defeated Western Michigan on the final day of the regular season, and moved up to the fifth seed after Eastern Michigan's 11-inning loss on Saturday. Toledo stayed alive, though, thanks to a series sweep of Bowling Green this weekend at Scott Park. After an 11-6 win on Thursday, UT won both games of a Friday doubleheader, 4-0 and 3-0. Senior Sam Shutes and junior Michael Jacob pitched complete game shutouts in games one and two, respectively, to keep the Midnight Blue and Gold in contention.

UT finished the season with a 14-13 record in conference play. This will be Toledo's fourth straight trip to the MAC Tournament and 10th trip under head coach Cory Mee. The last time the Rockets faced Central Michigan in tournament play was in 2015, a game UT won by a score of 6-2.

Kent State, the regular season MAC champions, and Miami are the top two seeds and both earn first-round byes. Ball State is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 seed Eastern Michigan on Wednesday prior to Toledo's matchup with the Chippewas.
